For many years, I have dedicated my life to caring for older adults and supporting families facing the challenges of Alzheimer's and other dementias. As a healthcare professional and caregiver, I have witnessed firsthand the emotional, physical, and mental impact this disease can have not only on the person diagnosed but also on their entire family.
Often, our Latino communities don't receive clear information in Spanish about what signs to look for, how to communicate with a loved one with dementia, or what resources are available for support. That's why it's so important for me to create spaces where we can learn together with dignity, empathy, and respect.
This year I had the honor of participating in Midwest Mujeres' Voices & Dreams Academy 2025, an experience that helped me strengthen my voice, share my story, and connect my professional experience with community service. Thanks to this program, I can now bring this message to more Hispanic families in Wisconsin.
I invite you to join us for our workshop “Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias: The Role of the Family,” where we will discuss warning signs, care strategies, and community resources available to our families.
